The Sound of Salzburg – “Karajan Digital Library” Vol. 13
It’s almost a family affair. Every musician who is born in Salzburg grows up with Mozart and so did Karajan. Deutsche Grammophon’s “Karajan Digital Library” Volume 13 offers an all-Mozart set. It contains complete recordings of “Figaro”, “Don Giovanni” and “The Magic Flute”, two great masses and the Requiem, the major symphonies No 29 – 41 and solo concertos for violin and horn. Very interesting is Karajan’s tireless engagement for the less well-known serenades and divertimenti (unfortunately no “Gran Partita”). And it features his very first recording, the overture to “The Magic Flute” from 1938.
