Karajan Institute Supports Education Project of The Philharmonic Brass
April 25, 2023 (Salzburg, Wien, Berlin). The Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute is proud to sponsor the educational project of The Philharmonic Brass. This chamber ensemble is comprised of sixteen brass players and four percussionists, who are drawn from members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and friends.
The project will provide opportunities for young musicians to learn from and perform with some of the world’s most accomplished brass players. Winners of the state and regional competitions of Prima La Musica receive free lessons with members of the The Philharmonic Brass, allowing them to prepare for a career in music, potentially even in one of the two world-renowned orchestras.
On April 21st, the The Philharmonic Brass presented a final benefit concert at the Musikverein Vienna. This event was part of a series of three concerts held in Graz, Eisenstadt and Vienna, with all proceeds going towards funding the project.
Dr. Matthias Röder, Managing Director of the Karajan Institute: “As Herbert von Karajan did throughout his career, the Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute is committed to investing in the future of music by supporting the development of young, talented musicians. Through our partnership with The Philharmonic Brass, we are proud to offer these young musicians the opportunity to learn from and perform with the best brass players in the world.”
Paul Halwax, Principial Tuba Player of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra says: “We are thrilled to have the Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute join us in this educational project. Together, we are providing young, talented musicians with the opportunity to learn from and perform with some of the best brass players in the world. This collaboration is helping to develop the next generation of musical stars and we are thankful to the Karajan Institute for their support and commitment to this project.”
